In all my writing courses, I emphasise WRITING a lot. If you don't write it, you can't sell it. Common sense. However, you can’t just write what you want to sell. You need to write to build an audience, a platform, for your writing too.
For example, on one of the writing groups I belong to, the established writers are complaining that book publishers are not buying nonfiction proposals, because of the "platform" issue. Publishers want you to have a platform --- an audience --- BEFORE they buy your book. They're covering their fundaments by demanding that you bring with you a built-in audience. :-)
These days, it's no longer enough to write well. You've also got to write to build your name. On Pro Write, our blogging workshop helps you to develop a blog as a writing platform. Yes, creating a blog means that you'll have to write more. But it's not a problem, because that's what you do, right?
