Some writers are shy and humble, and would rather do the wrong thing, or nothing at all, than ask questions.
If an editor or an agent asks you to do something (send a synopsis, write a sidebar, include a bio etc) and you're not sure what she means, ASK.
I get at least three email messages a week, to which the reply could be a single word: ASK!
Editors are human. No one will think less of you if you ask questions.
OTOH, don't overlook the obvious. If it's terminology you're not sure of, look up the word or phrase in a dictionary or on Google.
If you don't like the terms in a contract, ask for better terms. Yes, you can negotiate. Writing is business, and you're expected to negotiate the best terms possible for yourself.
