How's your confidence? New writers tend to lack confidence. (So do many professional writers.) This is a shame, because it means that you'll write less and sell less than you could if you worked to build your confidence. The correct attitude to aim for when you think about a piece of writing is relaxed nonchalance: OF COURSE you can write whatever the new project is.
Here are some confidence-building tips:
* A lack of confidence can be so deeply ingrained that you don't even realize that this is what the problem is. Consider that you may be a much better writer than you think you are;
* Writers who lack confidence procrastinate, so f you procrastinate, it indicates low-confidence, always. Build your confidence to the stage where you're eager to write. How? By writing a lot - the more you write, the more you will understand that you can write, whenever you wish;
* Stop talking about your writing to people who are not writers (this includes your family). Hearing yourself voice your doubts will feed them until they become monsters. People who aren't writers aren't qualified to give you advice. They mean well, but they may feed your fears, rather than build your confidence;
* Your first draft is always garbage, expect that, and be thrilled that you have something on paper to work with. In your first- zero - draft, just write whatever comes into your head;
* You will improve with every word you write, so write a lot. Every day. The more you write, the more your confidence will grow. :-)
