This week's writing journal prompt is a little unusual. It has rules. :-)
The prompt's aim is to help you to become familiar with your subconscious mind, and ultimately trust it. Your subconscious mind has recorded every event, in full color, which has happened in your life. It's a vast repository. Someone once said that if you could remember everything which happened to you in your childhood you'd have enough material to write for several lifetimes.
So here we go:
* As soon as you wake up tomorrow, write a page. This can be on your computer screen, or written by hand. Write ONE page; that's around 250 words.
* Repeat the above process for seven days.
* DO NOT reread any of the entries you've made until the seven days are complete.
When you first wake in the morning, you're much closer to your subconscious mind than you are for the rest of the day, so you'll tap into a deep vein of inspiration, as long as you don't force it.
Additional rules for the seven days:
* Write whatever comes to mind. If you can remember a dream, write that. If you write lists of words, or feelings, that's fine too. This is an association exercise, so write down whatever words and images occur to you.
* There's no way to do this "wrong". Write anything at all, but write fast.
When the seven days are over
At the end of the seven days, you can use your entries in any way you wish. You may find the seeds of articles, essays, or novels. You may simply find that your writing progresses more smoothly during the seven days, and afterward.
You will find that you approach your writing differently after the seven days are over: you've made the acquaintance of your silent partner.
Have fun. :-)
