Several writers I know have been working on ebooks for at least a year. Will they ever complete their ebooks? It's doubtful: they've lost their inspiration. Once that's gone, it's hard to get it back.
Big tip: an ebook is an information product. It's not a poor facsimile of a print book. It contains short and useful information which the reader can put into action right away.
Here's how to write your ebook in 24 hours.
1. You Know Top Secret Information Your Readers Want
Unfortunately, there's lots of junk online. There's free junk, and junk which you pay for. Many, if not most, ebooks contain rehashed junk. The sellers of these ebooks find themselves giving their customers refunds, and rightfully so.
Your first step in writing your ebook in 24 hours is to think about what you know. This can be difficult, because what you KNOW is deeply part of you. You don't think it's particularly great -- it's just what you know.
Sit back, relax, and take a mental journey through your life.
Perhaps your grandmother gave you some fantastic recipes which you love and cook for your friends. There you go -- instant ebook.
Make a list of ideas. If you spend half an hour doing this, you'll come up with many ideas -- more than you could write in a year.
Settle on an idea. It doesn't have to be great to you -- you know this stuff, so it will seem pedestrian to you, but others will pay for what you know.
2. Create a List Outline and Flesh It out
An outline is just a list. Create a list of anything and everything that you could put into your ebook. Now flesh out that list.
This is easy, because you're using information which you know.
How many pages do you have? If you have more than ten pages and you've covered everything you want to cover, call it done.
3. Write an Introduction, and Title
In your introduction, your primary task is to inspire the reader. Tell a couple of funny stories about your grandma, if you're writing a recipe book.
Brainstorm titles. Aim for 30 titles before you stop. Choose one.
4. Proofread: Read It Aloud
You've completed your ebook. Proofread it by reading it aloud into a digital recorder. Listen to it. Add information, and delete information: tinker with it until it's as good as you can make it.
Read the ebook aloud to a couple of friends. Do they understand it?
Convert your ebook into PDF format, and there you go -- you've written an ebook in 24 hours.
