Articles can be a goldmine for you too, if you excite your clients. In this article, I'll share three tips which will help you to do that.
1. Write Articles for Yourself, First
Who's your first best client? Yourself -- no one else. You need to write articles for yourself, and keep writing.
Why? Read on.
Here's what I see when I visit a typical writer's website: an anemic laundry list of what the writer can do.
Writing teachers are fond of yelling "Show, don't tell" at their fiction writing students, but "Show, don't tell" applies to other forms of writing too. It's especially vital on your website.
If I'm a prospective client of yours, I don't want to go to your website -- the website of a WRITER -- and see a laundry list of services you provide.
If I'm going to hire you, I want to be excited at the thought of what you can do for me. A list of your services does nothing, except convince me that you don't have a clue.
Therefore, to convince and EXCITE your clients, you need to flesh out that anemic website. If you're a writer, I want you to work for me. But you need to not only convince me that you can write for me, you also need to excite me. This means that I want to see content, and lots of it.
Write articles and post them on your website. Each article is a salesperson for you.
Here's a tip: a blog is your most valuable tool. It enables you to use article marketing (articles as a form of advertising) to promote your article writing services.
2. Plan: Create a SWOT Analysis
Do you have a plan for how you'll make six figures writing articles?
Your plan starts with a SWOT analysis.
SWOT is an acronym:
S: Strengths
W: Weaknesses
O: Opportunities
T: Threats
A SWOT analysis helps you to look at your writing skills and the writing environment objectively. That's its primary purpose. Make a list of your writing strengths, your weaknesses, the opportunities you can see around you, and the threats to your writing career and business.
Your analysis make take just 20 minutes, but it will have a powerful effect. Try it.
Another tip: PLAN ON PAPER. Yes, I'm shouting, because it's important. Write everything down. Date the document.
Use your SWOT analysis to create a plan. Then turn the plan into daily tasks, and carry out those tasks.
When you plan, you've taken a giant stride towards building a successful article writing career.
3. Carry out Your Plan: No Excuses
Have a plan, and carry it out. Does that sound simple? It sounds simple because it is.
I'm fond of asking writers what their plan is, and how much they're writing every day. If they don't have a plan, we make creating that plan a priority.
You can solve any and every challenge you will ever have, in writing and in your life, when you create a plan.
Please remember that you can make a fantastic income writing articles, if you can excite your clients. You do that by showing what you can do. That "show" starts with a plan. Carry out your SWOT analysis right now. I wish you every success.
